INTRODUCTION

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), a non profit that acts as a regulatory body for athletes of over 1,200 institutions and organizations had a lot going this season. The College Football season is all set to add to the holiday season festivities with the Orange and Cotton Bowl semifinal games. Let’s look at some of the updates this season!

NEBRASKA – END SEASON VICTORIES

After a string of losses this season, Nebraska was able to put a happy ending to this year’s games with a victory over UCLA. Tommy Armstrong’s touchdown pass helped Nebraska get the much needed 37-29 win at the Foster Farms Bowl On Saturday Night.

15 YEAR BAN ON SOUTH CAROLINA REMOVED

This year also saw the ending of the 15 year ban on South Carolina, which prevented them from hosting sanctioned Championship games.

NCAA President Mark Emmert commended South Carolina’s decision to remove the Confederate Flag from being flown over the State’s Capitol grounds. The NCAA have opposed this symbol of racism since 2001 and have now stated that South Carolina can now bid to host the NCAA Championships.

CLEMSON: SIMILARITIES WITH THE 1981 TEAM

The last time the Clemson Tigers were ranked no.1 on December 27 was the year 1981. Expected to lose five nights later to big eight champions Nebraska, the team lacked the big game experience, size and reputation. One must remember though that the 1981 team did go on to beat Nebraska 22-15.

This year though, the Clemson Tigers have done pretty well for themselves. Being undefeated this season, the Tigers take on Oklahoma in the semi-finals. Oklahoma, as compared to Clemson, have had a far tougher time getting to the semi-finals.

COTTON BOWL: ALABAMA VS MICHIGAN

Experts have given Alabama a 42% chance to win the Championship this season as opposed to Clemson’s 28% and Michigan’s 8%.

Though the Michigan team has put together a magical season this year with shocking victories and last minute upsets, the Crimson Tide are a very strong team. Having the third best defense in the nation, Michigan would find it very hard to score against them. The Crimson Tide defense has conceded just 16 points in its last six games.

SLUMP IN STADIUM ATTENDANCE

Home attendance at College Football games have sunk for a fifth consecutive year, the only consolation being that the rate in which the crowds have decreased has slowed down. As compared to 2014, this year has seen a 4% decline in the attendance on the games.

CONCLUSION
